Shanties and Sea Songs
Ahoy, matey -- climb aboard and brush up on your Shanties and Sea Songs, more than you ever knew existed. Apparently there are three types of shanties: "short haul shanties for tasks requiring quick pulls over a relatively short time, halyard shanties for heavier work requiring more setup time between pulls, and capstan shanties for long, repetitive tasks requiring a sustained rhythm but not involving working the lines." If you were as unaware of these divisions as I was, browse through lyrics for the more than 60 traditional shanties and sea songs provided here. The site also provides links to related sites, a Bibliography, and Traditional Sail Links.

Vermont MIDI Project
Students in grades 1 through 12 are composing music using notation and sequencing software. They send their compositions to other students across Vermont for feedback and enjoyment. Teachers are working together to learn more about composition and how to help students meet state and national standards for education. Professional composers around Vermont give residencies in schools and mentor teachers and students online with support from the Vermont Arts Council and the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education. Inspired by a state arts assessment initiative, the Vermont MIDI Distance Learning Project began in January 1995 years ago with help from the Vermont State Legislature.

Classical MIDI Archives
With over 7,500 midi files representing the work of 600 composers, the Classical Midi Archives is the most comprehensive midi resource for classical music.
