Mrs. Marshall's class

Welcome to Room 9! My name is Colleen Marshall and I teach 20 wonderful children in my 2nd grade classroom. We love trying our best, working hard, and most importantly, having fun!

Let me tell you a little about our daily routine. Our morning routine is designed to promote a sense of community within our classroom. We sit on the rug to say hello, read the morning message, review calendar, and complete a fun activity that reinforces a current skill being taught.
We transition right into math time. The Colchester School District adopted the Everyday Math Program in grades K-5. It is an engaging series that spirals important concepts throughout the year. I supplement many lessons with hands-on games and activities.  Snack is always a popular time
that leads us right into our morning special.

Specials: Monday - P.E. (sneakers please)

Tuesday - Library

Wednesday - Music

Thursday - P.E. (sneakers please)

Friday - Art

After lunch, we calm down by reading a story or chapter book and then we move right into  language arts time.  Students read a variety of grade appropriate texts as well as playing many games and activities that enhance our curriculum. Students work on various tasks all at different difficulty levels. We practice many different forms of writing including response journals, story starters, and even some poetry. Games are often used to reinforce a concept as well as book and art projects.

Theme time, which is our social studies and science time, consists of many interesting and intriguing topics such as the Friendship Olympics, balance and motion, the Alaskan Iditarod dog sled race, and plants.

Homework is a daily part of our work. Every night the children are expected to read 10 minutes a night, as well as practice their spelling words and complete a math sheet. Each assignment is reviewed in class before the children take it home.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and share in the joy of our class. Parent volunteers are strongly encouraged to become involved in our class. Please visit again!
