EEE

Essential Early Education

The EEE Program provides services to children with developmental delays ages 3 - 5. Children are served in the EEE classroom, their home or childcare setting, whichever best meets their needs.

Eligibility

To qualify for Special Education services, a child must show a delay of 40% in any one of the following developmental areas: speech/language, personal social, adaptive, fine or gross motor skills and/or cognitive skills. The 40% delay is based on the child's age at the time of the evaluation. Children who demonstrate a 40% delay are eligible for services and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed to meet their needs.

Additionally, children who have a diagnosed condition by a licensed physician with a high probability of a developmental delay before entering kindergarten are eligible for services. Children who are identified by the Infant Toddler Project and have an Individual Family Service Plan at the time they reach their third birthday are also eligible for services.

Classroom Program

The EEE Program has a classroom based at Union Memorial School. Children who attend the program at this time all have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). They come two, three or four mornings or two afternoons a week. Children in the program learn through play based activities presented to teach identified skills. Communication and interpersonal skills are emphasized.

The staff in the classroom include Bev Frank, EEE Teacher, Lorna Cifrian, Speech Language Pathologist, and two instructional assistants: Myrna Laurin and Tammy Walton. Additionally, children with identified needs see an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist as part of their program.

Outreach Program

Children with Individual Education Programs may be served in their home or childcare setting. Services are provided according to the child's needs. These services typically include coordination with the childcare provider to assure consistency throughout the child's week. These services range from direct service with the child to consultation.

Preschool Screenings

The EEE staff hold Preschool Screenings the second Friday of each month during the school year. This screening is for children ages 3 to 5 who have turned three by the screening date. The screening is play based with emphasis on gross and fine motor skills. Parent observation and input are an important component to the screening. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 878-4954.
