Parent Newsletter
March 25, 2005

Kindergarten Registration: Registration for children who will attend kindergarten in the Colchester School District during the 2005-06 school year will be held on May 9, 10 and 11, 2005. This registration is for children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2005. You need to contact the elementary school in your designated neighborhood to set up an appointment. For the registration you will need a birth certificate, immunization record, the child's social security number and a recent photo. The child also needs to attend as he/she will take part in a 20-30 minute screening.

Ink Cartridges and Old Cell Phones: A big thank you to all who have donated empty printer cartridges and old cellular phones. This is an on-going effort so please keep donating.

Jungle Party Tonight: The spring musical Jungle Party Tonight will be presented at Colchester High School on Tuesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 7 (see below for the classroom assignments). This will be a wonderful show so I hope every family will be able to attend and support the tremendous effort all of our students and teachers have put into it.

Playground Update: As of this writing we have raised $45,000 of the $54,000 needed to build the playground. Our last two fundraisers will be a raffle and fudge/candle sale. More information will be coming soon. We have also set the construction date for Sunday, May 1 beginning at 8:00 AM. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, so please keep the date free. We will need all the parent volunteers we can get to make it a success.

Sled Dogs: I'm sure your child talked a lot about the sled dog presentation on March 9. It was an exciting day. The students enjoyed learning about the sport/hobby of sled dogging and seeing the dogs in action.

Voter Registration: There will be an opportunity to register to vote (if you aren't currently registered) at each of the two Jungle Party Tonight shows. A table will be set up in the lobby of the high school. It's quick and easy and will allow you to participate in the next school budget vote. I'll keep you posted as to the date.

Parent Resource Fair: Chittenden County parents are invited to attend a resource fair to learn more about as many as 40 different agencies, government programs and related services for children with special needs. It will be an opportunity for parents to gather information from a number of sources in one evening. Some of the topics covered will be transition planning to adulthood, respite resources and mentoring for students. The fair will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 19 at Malletts Bay School.

April 12 PTO Meeting: Armando Vilaseca will be coming to the April 12 PTO meeting to talk about the budget cuts and solicit your help for the next budget vote. This will be a great informational meeting, so please attend.

Respectfully,

Chris Antonicci
Principal
