STW RESOURCE GUIDE: CENTRAL VERMONT EDITION

In 1997, the Work-Based Learning Task Force of the Central Vermont
School-to-Work Collaborative (CVSTWC), assisted by educators throughout the region, began identifying "exemplary practice" K-14 school-to-work learning activities — activities which took students beyond the typical classroom experience.

More than 30 creative, experiential learning activities were identified in our schools, many resulting from the seed of STW mini-grant funding. Pleased and excited about the outcomes that already existed in local schools, Central Vermont STW collaborated with these educators, administrators, and the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, to create the Central Vermont School-to-Work Resource Guide.

We hope you will utilize this Resource Guide for what it does best — to inspire and guide you in creating more learning opportunities for students throughout Vermont. You will notice that the Resource Guide links each STW activity to not only student learning opportunities (as identified in
Vermont’s Essential Elements of Career Development), but also the Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities.

The exemplary practices in this Resource Guide are those that we were able to identify in Central Vermont in 1997. Many more rich and best practices have emerged in our region and all over Vermont since that time. Some of them from the Central Vermont region are now included in the
exemplary programs/best practices section of the Vermont STW website, such as the Central Vermont Database project.

We thank all of the educators and businesses that participated in the creation of this Resource Guide, the Lake Champlain School-to-Work partnership and VSAC. This Guide is a wonderful example of the products that were developed with STW funds and collaborative partnerships.

Please feel free to use this Guide in any way that supports the enhancement of student learning opportunities, throughout Vermont, and the country.
