To Whom It
May Concern:
It is our pleasure at Vergennes Union High School to nominate BF Goodrich for this
prestigious award. BF Goodrich began helping us here at Vergennes Union High School
by assisting us in establishing all of our computer technology. They accomplished
this by giving Vergennes Union High School grants, which enabled us to supply the
school with new computers, and most importantly with the technicians that installed
Internet access to all of the new computers. Without their help we would still be
years behind in our computer technology.
Last year BF Goodrich participated in a program to facilitate Vergennes Union High
School in convincing our ninth grade students to challenge themselves by taking math
and science courses. They accomplished this by sending an engineer and technician
to visit our freshman English classes. The engineer and technician explained what
their lifestyle was like working for BF Goodrich in their respective positions. In
their discussions with the students they covered benefits, salary, leisure time,
and the general lifestyle they are able to live while working at BF Goodrich. They
also stressed the importance of having a solid background in math and science to
be able to obtain the kind of job position that they held. I believe that the fact
that most impressed our students here at Vergennes Union High School, was that a
young person with a two-year degree from the Vermont Technical College was able to
make an excess of $40.000 a year and still have room to advance in the company.
BF Goodrich has provided our school with a tutoring program. When we identify students
who have problems in our math or science courses, Vergennes Union High School contacts
BF Goodrich, and they find a tutor who can help our student. The tutor and the student
then contact each other and they set up a time they can meet to work on the student's
math or science problem.
BF Goodrich has exhibited a great deal of support to our School-to-Work program by
taking part in our Job Fairs and giving our students tours through their plant. We've
also had several students who have worked with BF Goodrich's engineers on solving
specific engineering problems. BF Goodrich has provided the opportunity to one of
our students to be involved in a welding course for the entire school year.
If there are any further questions regarding our experiences with BF Goodrich please
feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Scott Lynk
