Payment Options

E-File
  ACH Debit

Taxpayers can pay the tax at the time the return is electronically filed.  You can also schedule the payment date. For example, you owe $50 tax to Vermont.  You can file the return in February 2010 and schedule the $50 to be paid on April 15, 2010 (the due date this year).  There is no charge to pay by ACH debit.

VTPay

Whether you electronically file or file by paper, you can use this on-line credit card payment system available through the Vermont Department of Taxes' web site.  There is a convenience fee charged by the credit card processor for payments over $200.

Check or Money Order

For electronic filing - Remit your payment with Form IN-116.  This assures the payment is credited to the correct tax account and tax year.

Keep a reminder to be sure the payment is made by the due date, April 15, 2010. The Department does not send bills until after the due date.  At that time, penalty and interest is added for late payment.

If you cannot pay your entire VT income tax liability, file the return on time and pay as much as you can. Then immediately write to the department or call to apply for a payment plan at:
