E-File - Refund Options

Check
The Vermont Department of Taxes will issue a check for refunds due. Please allow up to 14 business days for processing and mailing.

Direct Deposit
Available for electronic filing only. Your refund can be deposited directly into your bank account. You need to enter your bank information in the direct deposit section of VT Form 8453. The refund will show as a deposit transaction on your bank account records. Please allow up to 5 processing days.

Apply to Next Year
You may use all or a portion of your refund as an estimated payment towards 2009 income tax.

Apply to Property Tax
If you file your VT income tax return by September 1 or earlier, you may use all or a portion of your refund to pay your current uear property tax. The State will increase the refund used to pay property taxes by an additional 1%. The refund amount will appear as a credit on your property tax bill.
