Biological Web Links
These are sites that I've visited and found worthwhile or just plain cool. Check them out! I've listed them according to the Unifying Principles from BSCS Biology, A Human Approach. Other categories are there as needed.
| Evolution | |
| Human ancestor SKULLS: Informative and cool. See the human family tree including Lucy et al. View skulls in comparison to modern Homo sapiens. Images are rotatable (Shockwave plug-in required). You can make them nod their assent and approval of evolutionary theory (great for parties!) | Peppered Moth Evolution: Get the story and gene frequencies on this classic example of evolution occurring in "real" time. |
| Homeostasis | |
| The Virtual Cell: A fantastic 3d virtual dissection of a plant cell. Allows close (electron microscope) viewing of some (not all) organelles. Cool movies of photosynthesis and cell respiration (great for parties too, if you've invited bio geeks!). | Human Anatomy (Inner body.com): In addition to several other abilities, this site allows a look at major organ systems in the human body. Name all the bones, check out the pancreas, etc. |
| Gray's Anatomy: Visit this classic anatomy textbook in its online form. No explicit pictures, just excellent color drawings of everything inside. | Immune system in Action: This shockwave game allows you to play the role of a macrophage in the fight against a virus. Work Fast! |
| Energy, Matter, and Organization | |
| Continuity (Reproduction and Inheritance) | |
| Development (Growth and Differentiation) | |
| Ecology | |
| AP specific sites (you deserve your own section!) | |
