"Not by Bread Alone Does Man Live..."

That the Academy is an adequate, even superior school nobody questions. It has provided an excellent meat-and-potatoes education to its students and alumni/ae for 158 years. That the Academy is all it could be is a little less certain. John Adams, in a letter to his wife in 1841, said it best,

I must study politics and war, so that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children the right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.

The Academy has done well the first half of John Adams's declaration. The complexity of modern society with its many rewarding occupations and professions requires that the Academy add the creative dimension to the education of its students. The Academy must provide places and programs to study the arts and explore the minds and hearts of other men and women.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the Board and the Headmaster are committed to complete the campus vision and add the following facilities and endowment funds:

A Center for the Arts

Modern Library and Information Technology resources to create a school-wide information network

Program Support, with focus on Arts and Information Technology programs.

The Board has authorized a capital campaign to raise fund to meet the preceding needs.
